Cumberland Valley School of Music presents the 27th Annual Gala Showcase Concert, Sunday, October 30, 2:00pm at Thomson Alumnae Chapel on the Wilson College Campus in Chambersburg. Andrew Stadler, CVSM alum and current graduate student at Yale University, is a featured performer and joins the school in honoring his former trumpet instructor, Gloria McCauley. The concert will also feature present and former faculty members, students, alumni, and members of the community. The program offers classical, Dixieland, opera, Broadway and popular music.
Gloria McCauley is one of the original faculty members of CVSM and has continued to
teach trumpet, French horn and piano lessons from when the school opened in 1990. She joined the founding members in recruiting students to the school, included sending her students to perform at local civic clubs. She is extremely proud of all of the accomplishments of her students, many of whom have been selected for various honor bands (district, regional, state, and all-eastern) and have performed for many local organizations over the years. She almost always attended the honor band performances of her students. Gloria believes that “if I expect my student to reach these goals, it is my job to be there to support them.”
Andrew Stadler is a 2011 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a former student of McCauley, from 2004 until his graduation. Andrew received a 
Bachelor of Music in Trumpet from the University of Alabama and is currently a second year master’s student at the Yale School of Music. He remembers thinking of Gloria as a “strict” teacher during the first few lessons (compared to his prior teachers), however he quickly progressed under her tutelage and placed second in 2009 and first in 2010 in the Merit Awards, Instrumental Category, at CVSM. His first year of participation in district band is what solidified his desire to major in music performance. Andrew has always been impressed by Gloria’s dedication to her students. “I don’t think she ever missed one of my concerts,” he stated. He shared a story in which Gloria stayed with his grandparents when she attended one of his performances in Pittsburgh.
Andrew is honored to have been asked to perform in the Showcase Concert in recognition of his former teacher. Andrew will perform “Willow Echoes” by Frank Simon for the Showcase Concert, accompanied by Gloria McCauley. Andrew will also perform two selections with a Dixieland combo featuring CVSM instructors, alumni, and friends: Herm Hopple (bass), Mark Miller (banjo/guitar), Sam Hepfer (drums), Andrew Sussman (piano), Paul Grane (clarinet), Tim Gotwald (sax), and Keith Smith (trombone).
The CVSM Showcase Choir will perform two hymns directed by Corey Rotz. The hymns, “Now Thank We All Our God” and “All Creatures of Our God and King,” feature a brass and percussion ensemble, including Andrew Stadler. These selections honor Gloria’s dedication to her church and to her brass students.

- Selections from “Twelve American Preludes” by Alberto Ginestera performed by CVSM instructor Julie Emig and current Merit Award recipient Rebekah Duvall.
- “Quando men vo” by Giacomo Puccini performed by Margaret Weeks Scholarship recipient Elary Mede.
- “Gooch’s Song” from Mame performed by CVSM instructor and previous Merit Award recipient Elisabeth Turchi and accompanied by CVSM instructor Valerie Merriman.
- Selection from Scene de Ballet by CH de Beriot performed by CVSM Merit Award recipient Abigail Duvall and accompanied by her mother, Anne Duvall, a previous Merit Award recipient and former student of Julie Emig.
- Elegie by Massenet performed by CVSM instructors Elisabeth Turchi, Michael Cameron, and Valerie Merriman.
- A Guys and Dolls medley performed by Corey Rotz and an ensemble of CVSM students including Merit Award recipients Elary Mede, Marisabel Cordova and Sarah Sutton; also performing are Logan Cook, Victor Coriale, Ian Mangan, Katherine Ruthrauff (Merit Honorable Mention), and Austin Widmann. They will be accompanied by Brian Helman (piano), Herm Hopple (bass) and Sam Hepfer (drums).
- A Beatles medley performed by CVSM instructors Ethan Larsh (piano & vocals), Joel Newman (guitar & vocals), Mark Bryson (bass guitar), and Sam Hepfer (drums).
- Pavane, opus 50 by Faure performed by CVSM instructors Tim Gotwald (flute), Heather McEndree (flute), and Mark Miller (guitar).
