Members of the community have multiple opportunities to experience music with CVSM
Chambersburg–Cumberland Valley School of Music presents four free events for the community in August, including Chambersburg First Friday, a performance at Totem Pole Playhouse, a Student Recital and a main campus Open House.
Chambersburg First Friday on August 5th is themed “Support the Arts in School.” CVSM will have a table at the event where people can make-and-take music shakers as well as find information on CVSM music programs. CVSM has programs with select local schools and community organizations to provide music instruction at low or no cost to students.
Totem Pole Playhouse has invited local non-profit arts organizations to perform as part of the Sunday Concert Series. CVSM faculty, students, and friends will perform on Sunday, August 7th beginning at 7:30 PM. This lively and energetic performance features such selections as Brubeck’s “Take 5,” “Alice in Wonderland,” Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag,” Boling’s “Suite for Jazz Flute, Broadway songs, and pop hits. Current and former CVSM Merit students included in the performance are Grace Boscolo, vocalist; Jesse Rotz, pianist; Elary Mede, vocalist; Elinor Borrell, pianist; and Marisabel Cordova, vocalist. CVSM faculty members and friends performing at the event include Mark Bryson, Brian Helman, Paula Hepfer, Sam Hepfer, Heather McEndree, and Valerie Merriman.
The performance is free and held under the tent located on the west lawn of Totem Pole Playhouse in beautiful Caledonia State Park. Free will offerings will be collected to support CVSM. In case of rain, the concert will be held inside Totem Pole Playhouse.
A Student Recital is scheduled for Thursday, August 11th at the Alumnae Chapel in Thomson Hall of the Wilson College Campus. This performance begins at 7:00 PM and features students who are currently taking lessons with CVSM instructors during the summer session.
A CVSM Open House is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th at the main campus in Thomson Hall of the Wilson College Campus. Between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00 AM, visitors to CVSM can experience sample lessons and classes, tour the facility, and meet faculty and current students of CVSM. Attendees may collect stamps in a “Music Passport” by visiting all of the activities, which can then be handed in to receive free registration for the 2016-2017 academic year.
