Musikgarten® Nimble & Quick (newborn – 3 years, caregiver present)

These classes are the first step toward bonding musically with your child. Activities include bouncing & rocking songs, finger plays, body awareness games, singing, moving, dancing, listening and playing instruments. All of these activities stimulate the brain, foster physical development, and cultivate listening skills.

Music Together® (18 months – 5 years, caregiver present)
This class explores music in a warm, low-key atmosphere, encouraging families to make music a part of everyday life, setting in motion a life-long love of and participation in music. Basic music skills will be developed through singing, movement, and the use of rhythm instruments and other props.

Inspiring children to express their unique innate creativity and develop fundamental skills through “Art Play.” Using visual art mediums like paint, drawing, clay sculpting and recyclables, Pee Wee Picasso’s allows each child their own process driven journey of discovery to create mini masterpieces and build confidence. Each day we introduce a new art concept while engaging our little artists in discussions designed to increase their understanding of each tool and material used.

Voice & Drama, Jr. featuring scenes and songs from “The Music Man” (Entering grades 1-3 for Fall 2020)
Participants in this week-long camp will have fun as they sing, dance, and act in a creative mini-musical. The camp will end with a performance as part of Old Market Day in downtown Chambersburg.

Artistic Adventurers (Ages 7-10 years)
Through daily creative projects, our Artistic Adventurers will develop their skills in using a variety of different art mediums including paint, drawing materials, fabric, clay, recyclable or found objects. Each day will introduce a new element of art history to help deepen the camper’s knowledge and appreciation for art and discover new ways to express their creativity. The camp ends with each camper displaying some of their masterpieces in a mini art exhibition open to parents and family members.

Tell a Story Through Music (Ages 7-9 years)
Create music to tell a story through the exploration of harmony, dynamics, articulation and expression. Students will leave this class with an understanding of how music can surprise, entice , calm and excite the audience! All musical levels may participate for a
fun week of creation together!

Basket Weaving “Encounter” (Entering 4th grade through adult)

Experience basket making! Create a small square-to-round basket with a simple base, continuously woven sides  using variegated material, and a basic matchstick border. The finished basket will be about 7” across and 4”-5” high. No previous experience necessary.

Basket Weaving “Arrival” (Entering 4th grade through adult)

Enjoy weaving a small, handled basket while learning basic flat-element construction techniques—how to make a woven base, how to weave the basket’s sides (adding color accents if desired), how to finish the top with a lashed rim, and how to add a decorative surface embellishment. The finished basket will measure about 8”l x 6”w x 4”h at the rim. No previous experience necessary.

Piano Sampler (Ages 8-11 years)
Is your child interested in piano and you would like to “try it” before registering for lessons? This class introduces the basics of playing piano in a supportive group environment.

Voice & Drama featuring scenes and songs from “The Music Man” (Entering grades 4-9 for Fall 2020)

As part of this unique performance experience, each camper will have the opportunity to be in a special dance number, a dramatic scene (based on the play) or a special vocal solo, duet, or small ensemble. Everyone participates; no waiting in the wings while the “lead” characters rehearse and perform. Each camper receives 2 individualized voice lessons during the week. All campers will: • gain a better ability to sing and project the voice (both sung and spoken), as well as improve clarity, diction and articulation • sing in harmony with other singers • develop comfort and poise in front of an audience while improving posture and increasing confidence • understand that practice is required to become “good” at a task • experience the excitement of a performance and the joy of having music, movement, and a captivating story etched in memory. The camp will end with a performance as part of Old Market Day in downtown Chambersburg.

Learn the necessary skills for performing successfully in an ensemble, including enhancing skills learned in school-based ensembles. For advanced beginner and intermediate level string players. Students should have played their instrument for a year, and be able to read at least basic notes. Music reading will be included in the class for those who are Suzuki method students.

In these four “make-and-take” sessions we will build simple instruments to showcase the basic concepts behind their construction. These projects will explore different types of standing waves and how each is used to produce the music that we play. Choose how many sessions you would like to attend. Discount if you attend all 4. Shakespeare Workshop (Ages 14 and older)
Performing Shakespeare is FUN! We will laugh, play, cheer and jeer, all while learning to read, interpret, and perform Shakespeare’s works. It will culminate in a showcase performance of Shakespearean scenes on 7/11 at 1:00 PM.

Join us for a 3-day workshop to learn  and perform small chamber ensemble selections. Open to woodwind, brass or string musicians. Each ensemble will be coached by an experienced musician and appropriate repertoire will be selected based on the instrumentation and ability of each ensemble. Deadline to register is 6/1.
