Musikgarten® Nature’s Music (newborn – 3 years, caregiver present)
These classes are the first step toward bonding musically with your child. Activities include bouncing & rocking songs, finger plays, body awareness games, singing, moving, dancing, listening and playing instruments. All of these activities stimulate the brain, foster physical development, and cultivate listening skills.

Music Together® (18 months – 5 years, caregiver present)
This class explores music in a warm, low-key atmosphere, encouraging families to make music a part of everyday life, setting in motion a life-long love of and participation in music. Basic music skills will be developed through singing, movement, and the use of rhythm instruments and other props.

Pee Wee Picassos (Ages 4-6 years)
Inspiring children to express their unique innate creativity and develop fundamental skills through “Art Play.” Using visual art mediums like paint, drawing, clay sculpting and recyclables, Pee Wee Picasso’s allows each child their own process driven journey of discovery to create mini masterpieces and build confidence. Each day we introduce a new art concept while engaging our little artists in discussions designed to increase their understanding of each tool and material used.

Pee Wee Picassos (Ages 4-6 years)

Music Together® Jammin’! (Ages 5-7 years)
This camp will satisfy the fun-loving and challenge-ready natures of 5-7 year olds. The sessions will provide opportunities to complete the child’s journey to basic music competence, and will lay the foundations for basic music literacy. Activities will include game songs, movement, solo and ensemble [instrumental & vocal] experiences, conducting, improvisation, and music-reading readiness. The parent or caregiver is welcome to participate as desired.

The Power of Music: STEAM Workshop (Ages 6-11 years)
Sound waves do more than help you enjoy your favorite music. Sound helps us measure distance, see inside our bodies, and even shatter rocks! Join us for an afternoon of exploring sound, and build your own sound cannon to continue your experiments at home!

Music & Nature (Ages 7-9 years)
This exciting camp will have children exploring nature through singing, dancing, activities (indoor and outdoor), and crafts. Families are invited to participate for the final 15 minutes each day. Family packs are included in the price.

Artistic Adventurers (Ages 7-10 years)
Through daily creative projects, our Artistic Adventurers will develop their skills in using a variety of different art mediums including paint, drawing materials, fabric, clay, recyclable or found objects. Each day will introduce a new element of art history to help deepen the camper’s knowledge and appreciation for art and discover new ways to express their creativity. The camp ends with each camper displaying some of their masterpieces in a mini art exhibition open to parents and family members.

Voice & Drama, Jr. featuring scenes and songs from “The Wizard of Oz” (Entering grades 1-3 for Fall 2019)
Participants in this week-long camp will have fun as they sing, dance, and act in a creative mini-musical. The camp will end with a performance as part of Old Market Day in downtown Chambersburg.

Voice & Drama featuring scenes and songs from “The Wizard of Oz” (Entering grades 4-9 for Fall 2019)
As part of this unique performance experience, each camper will have the opportunity to be in a special dance number, a dramatic scene (based on the play) or a special vocal solo, duet, or small ensemble.

Science & Music: STEAM Workshop (Ages 13-18 years)
Learn about the science of sound and music with experiments and building projects. Discover how instruments make music and how our ears perceive it. You’ll also design and build your own musical instrument!

Kickstart to Classical Guitar (Age 13 and older)
Classical guitar is a rewarding and versatile art: from song accompaniment to Baroque counterpoint, its techniques can be applied to a variety of musical styles. In this two-hour workshop, experienced group instructor Dr. Candice Mowbray will lead participants through the basics of playing guitar in the classical style. In addition to learning technique and playing a piece, appreciation and listening activities will be included. Each student should bring his or her own classical, nylon-string guitar and a footstool.

Chamber Music Play-In (Age 14 and older)
Spend your afternoon immersed in chamber music with other enthusiasts! This workshop is open to all instruments. We will conclude with a large ensemble read-through of a Brandenburg or other work for winds with strings, depending on registrations. The deadline to register for this course is June 1.

Piano Class for Adults (Age 16 and older)
This class is designed for those who want to learn to play piano, or perhaps to return to the piano after many years. The group approach cultivates a positive spirit that stimulates and reinforces learning. Classroom interaction makes understanding basic music skills more interesting and enjoyable.

Seasoned Musicians

New Horizons Chamber Ensemble (Age 50 and older)
Join us for a 4-day workshop to learn and perform small chamber ensemble selections. Open to woodwind, brass or string musicians. Each ensemble will be coached by an experienced musician and appropriate repertoire will be selected based on the instrumentation and ability of each ensemble. This workshop is provided through scholarship funding and support by the New Horizons International Music Association (NHIMA) and the Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP). If you are a member of either NHIMA or ACMP, the workshop fee is $35. Fee for non-members is $50. (Note: If you are a current New Horizons band member at CVSM, this does not apply as an individual NHIMA membership.)

The perfect ensemble to learn to play a band (woodwind, brass, or percussion) instrument or brush up on your playing skills. No prior music experience required, although the student must provide instrument and music stand. This group performs beginning level music, up to level 1.5.
