Musikgarten® New Friends (newborn – 3 years w/ caregiver present)

These classes are the first step toward bonding musically with your child. Activities include bouncing & rocking songs, finger plays, body awareness games, singing, moving, dancing, listening and playing instruments. All of these activities stimulate the brain, foster physical development, and cultivate listening skills.

Wiggles & Giggles (newborn – 3 years w/caregiver present)

Wiggles & Giggles aims to help babies and toddlers experience the fun and magic of music and movement through our own special twist on the traditional Musikgarten curriculum. In this class, we will sing, bounce, rock, dance, and play instruments together, laying the foundation necessary for success in music and aiding the child’s social, emotional, mental, and physical development along the way.  Using music ranging from Mozart to modern, adults and children alike will enjoy an atmosphere of fun and excitement as we build these skills. In Little Maestros, children will continue to develop socially, emotionally, mentally, and physically through music and movement while discovering the sensory world around them.  This class builds upon the activities that they enjoyed as toddlers (singing, dancing, playing instruments), and adds the excitement of tonal instruments, sensory activities, pattern reading, imaginative play, storytelling, crafts, and more…all through the magic of music! Elementary and Middle

Musikgarten® Music Makers at the Keyboard (6-7 years)

Music Makers at the Keyboard lays the groundwork for keyboard success. The activities foster pride and excitement in making music both independently and with others. In addition to playing the piano, students will participate in dancing and drumming, singing, echoing patterns, and composing & musical dictation.

Vocal Explorers (5-8 years)

Explore all that your voice can do through song & vocal exploration.  This class will teach vocal technique for the young singer through songs and music theory using solfege. This class culminates in a performance at the CVSM Recital on Sunday, April 30.

Inviting all cello students to join our Cello Choir for a low commitment ensemble option in which students will prepare for a performance at Performathon on March 18th in Waynesboro. Each session will include cello technique and music theory activities as well as lots of playing music with emphasis on how to play together well. (Students welcome that can play at the beginning of Suzuki book 1 and beyond.)

Theatre Explorers 2 (9-13 years)

This class is designed to teach kids the basics of acting and improv through the use of theatre games.  Students are encouraged to use their imaginations as they learn to build stories, create characters, practice teamwork, and gain self-confidence.

Fiddle Sticks (11-15 years) NEW AGES! 

A strings group designed to focus on a mastery of ensemble repertoire to improve ensemble listening skills and develop the ability to perform four-part harmonies and rhythm conversation between sections. This ensemble is for intermediate level string players who can read music and have at least one year’s experience. Students should be familiar with rhythms including 16th notes and able to play in keys with flats and sharps as well as the key of C. The group will prepare for two performances- March 18th and March 28th.

This workshop series is a hands-on, immersive study of different percussion instruments.  Instructor Marlin Barnes will lead and demonstrate several instruments in each of the three sessions.  Students will also be welcomed to try out the instruments within their own level of comfort. The final session will be followed by a performance by Mr. Barnes at 4 PM, exhibiting the instruments in action.

Voice over class (13 and older) This class has been canceled for the spring semester.

In this 4 session workshop, you will learn to identify and develop your voiceover toolbox through identifying a script’s purpose, voice and tone. Students will work at the mic at every class and explore narration, commercials, and animation. No experience necessary!

Acting for Teens and Adults (13 and older)

This class will teach students acting techniques with scene study and script analysis.  Students will explore techniques by Meisner, Chekhov, and Stanislavsky and put these techniques into practice as students perform scenes.

New Horizons Choir 

Through a partnership with Wilson College, mature singers are invited to join the Wilson Choir, which functions as a chapel and concert group performing at various Wilson functions. Come as you are, and learn to appreciate the instrument you already own, no matter whether you are a beginner or veteran vocalist. This spring they will be exploring world music, contemporary a cappella, plus some traditional choral works. A final concert is planned for the afternoon of May 7th. Time TBD currently.

CVSM Symphonic Band (all ages)
