Six area performing groups will combine to present voice and instrumental music during the Encore Musicians Concert on Saturday, April 29, at Chambersburg’s First United Methodist Church. It will be the third annual Encore event sponsored by the Cumberland Valley School of Music.
Free and open to the public, the concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. Off-street parking is available in the lot adjacent to the 225 S. Second St. church.
Representing an important part of CVSM’s mission to provide education and performance opportunities to musicians of all ages, performers will range in age from 40 to 95.

Cumberland Valley School of Music plans to hold its annual Recognition Concert on Sunday, April 23 to feature the student recipients of the Merit Awards Scholarships, the recipient of the Henry and Janet Guarriello Scholarship, and graduating seniors who plan to major or minor in a performance art.

Pianist Brian Helman is returning to perform with the group, according to
Director Herman Hopple. Helman, who is also a CVSM instructor, is slated to perform a challenging Willy Ostyn Piano Concerto.
“Ostyn composed a plethora of works—many similar in style to George Gershwin,” Hopple said, adding that he is looking forward to Helman performing the piece entitled, “Concertstuk voor piano en strikers” with the orchestra. Hopple added that the title indicates a small concerto with piano and strings. The piece is about 20 minutes in length.

A cast of 40 young actors will roll the dice on a production of Guys and Dolls Jr on Friday March 10th and Saturday March 11th in Wilson College’s Laird Hall. The cast ranges in age from 7 to 18 and brings all the enthusiasm and energy of youth to this adaptation of the classic Broadway musical comedy Guys and Dolls. Adapted for young voices, the show features some of Broadway’s most memorable songs like “Luck Be A Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and “I’ve Never Been in Love Before.” Guys and Dolls Jr is the second collaboration between Cumberland Valley School of Music (CVSM) and the Wilson College Performing Arts Series.
