2012-2013 Merit Award Winners

CVSM AWARDS CONCERT PROGRAM - APRIL 22, 2012

Cumberland Valley School of Music will be presenting the CVSM Awards Concert on Sunday, April 22, at 3:00 PM in Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA.  The recital will feature the winners of CVSM’s merit scholarship competition, which was held on March 31, as well as graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in music and the winner of this year’s Benjamin Rhine Scholarship.

In the Merit Awards Competition, students vied for awards in instrumental, piano and vocal categories.  Evaluated by teams of impartial judges on such criteria as technique, tone, interpretation, stage presence, and sight-reading, the first three prizewinners in each category will perform.  Winners this year are:

             Vocal Awards

First Place: The Margaret Weeks Vocal Scholarship – Marina Addlesberger – studies voice at CVSM with Suzanne Sweigart, is a 10th grade student and is homeschooled, daughter of Mary and Jim Addlesberger, Chambersburg, PA

Second Place – Elizabeth Malone – studies voice at CVSM with Elisabeth Turchi, is an 8th grade student at Chambersburg Area Middle School North, daughter of Charles and Karen Malone, Chambersburg, PA

         Third Place – Katarina Johannson-- studies voice at CVSM with Elisabeth Turchi, is a 8th grade student at Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, daughter of Elizabeth Johannson, Chambersburg, PA

Piano Awards

 First Place – McQuire Allen-Hall – studies piano at CVSM with Brian Helman, is an 9th grade student at Mercersburg Academy, daughter of Sanda and Michael Allen-Hall, Chambersburg, PA

 Second Place – Rebekah Duvall – studies piano at CVSM with Julia Emig, is a 4th grade student at Greencastle-Antrim Elementary School, daughter of Paul and Anne Duvall, Greencastle, PA

Third Place – Frank Heberlig – studies piano at CVSM with Brian Helman, is a 9th grade student at Shippensburg Area High School, son of Lance and Susan Heberlig, Newburg, PA

Instrumental Awards

 First Place – Monica Divinagracia (violin) – studies at CVSM with Deborah Stotelmyer, a 11th grade student at St. Maria Goretti High School, daughter of Glenn and Joan Divinagracia, Hagerstown, MD

 Second Place – Rebecca Li (flute) – studies at CVSM with Suzanne Thierry, an 7th grade student at Chambersburg Area Middle School South, daughter of Jianzhong Li and Lihong Xing, Chambersburg, PA

Third Place – Abigail Duvall (violin) – studies at CVSM with Cindy Scanzello, a 6th grade student at Greencastle-Antrim Middle School, daughter of Paul and Anne Duvall, Greencastle, PA

Also performing will be the winner of this year’s Benjamin A. Rhine Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a CVSM student who is studying and displaying aptitude on multiple instruments.  This year’s winner is: Abigail Mosier – CVSM student of Paul Grane (clarinet) and Gloria McCauley (trumpet).  Abigail is an 11th grade student at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, daughter of Roger and Barb Lange, Chambersburg, PA

In addition, CVSM will be honoring graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in music or the performing arts or are past merit award winners.

                     The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education with over 600 students and 55 faculty members at six locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown.
